Yesterday Sean, Lee, Pat, and myself joined a group of ENSTA students on a trip to Versailles. We had gone to a soiree earlier in the week and got to know a couple of students. They were all very welcoming and fun to talk with. Thanks Lee for your French pronunciation queries; they made that night oh that much more entertaining for everyone. This group of students, however, we did not recognize. Luckily they recognized us and we bumped into each other just in the nick of time. The train ride over was nice. I’m really glad that most parts of train rides here are above ground. We get to Versailles and we are greeted by a lot of tourists, chilly weather, and gold.

We got our tickets for 15€ for the Palace and 2€ for the gardens a pop, no student discount there. With our tickets in hand we proceeded into the Palace. The rooms we walked into were pretty similar, gold molding on the walls and big love seats or beds. Some rooms had interesting statues The Hall of Mirrors was in fact shiny and pretty long. Through here we could connect to les chambres du Roi et Reine. I personally liked Marie-Antoinette’s better.

Snacks were eaten and then we frolicked through the gardens. This second half I was much fonder of (the fact that I got food in me might have influenced this sentiment as well).
There were a lot of fountains. Inside the palace there was a mix of Evangelical and Mythological themed artwork.
It all seemed Mythological once you got into the gardens. So the fountain heads I found to be super neat.

The trees were tall, hedges impressive the Grand Canal was grand (you can see tiny rowboats in it). Towards the end of our journey we watched a water effects show done to Handel (I think).
We were very tired by the end of it, but I think satisfied that we went. Thanks ENSTA students for organizing the trip.
